What could be more welcoming as a door knocker on a front door in shiny brass? I'm such a believer in this product that I have it on my own (pink) front door in London, and it cheers me up every time I come home. The delicious symbol of hospitality, the pineapple iis one of my favourite designs. It's grown pretty much everywhere in India from Kerala to Bihar but it also plays an important role in English decoration from Georgian times onwards. Its Anglo-Indian history is part of its appeal for me - grown extensively through the days of the Raj a fresh pineapple was used at doorways as a symbol of welcome.
